Central Arkansas Iris Society
Little Rock, Arkansas - an affiliate of the American Iris Society - Region 22
Over 50 Years of Promoting Iris Culture
was organized in September 1959 as an affiliate of the American Iris
Society (AIS). We are open to everyone who shares our goals:
spreading knowledge about growing all kinds of irises, encouraging
research, improving the quality of irises grown in our area, exchanging
ideas, and helping novices who are starting to grow our favorite
meets monthly (unless otherwise announced) at 2:00 PM in the auditorium
of Hillcrest Hall, 1501 Kavanaugh Boulevard in Little Rock, at the
intersection of Kavanaugh and Lee Avenue. Each month’s meeting
features an educational program on a topic related to iris culture.
two main events for the Society are our annual Iris Show in the Spring
and the annual Iris Rhizome Sale in the Fall. Both events are
open to the general public. The Iris Show is officially
sanctioned by the American Iris Society and judged by accredited AIS
judges who award each entry according to its individual merits.
The annual Iris Rhizome Sale is held each year at the appropriate
planting time for irises in Arkansas, usually late August or early
September. At the sale the Society offers hundreds of healthy
rhizomes at a fraction of their retail value. Most are from the
awarded irises cultivated in our State Capitol Beds and others are
grown and donated by our active members.
