CAIS was organized in September 1959 as an affiliate of the American Iris Society (AIS). We are open to everyone who shares our goals: spreading knowledge about growing all kinds of irises, encouraging research, improving the quality of irises grown in our area, exchanging ideas, and helping novices who are starting to grow our favorite flowering plants.
The Society meets the second Sunday of each month at the Unitarian Universalist Church at 1818 Reservoir Rd, Little Rock at 2:00 PM. Each month’s meeting features an educational program on a topic related to iris culture. We also publish an annual Yearbook with a membership roster, directory, scheduled programs and events.
The two main events for the Society are our annual Iris Show in the Spring and the annual Iris Rhizome Sale in the Fall. Both events are open to the general public. The Iris Show is officially sanctioned by the American Iris Society and judged by accredited AIS judges who award each entry according to its individual merits. The annual Iris Rhizome Sale is held each year at the appropriate planting time for irises in Arkansas, usually late August or early September. At the sale the Society offers hundreds of healthy rhizomes at a fraction of their retail value.
You can keep abreast of the Society's activities and communicate directly with other members and friends on our CAIS Facebook page. There you'll find great photos taken by our members, or posts from other commercial farms or affiliates of the AIS. Take a look at our Facebook page and and be sure to "LIKE" us. Our members look forward to sharing their love for irises with you.
We encourage our members to join the American Iris Society (AIS) which produces many other excellent references, such as the quarterly bulletin, Irises. For more information about the American Iris Society and AIS membership simply click the appropriate link under Helpful Links.
We invite you to join us today! CAIS membership is very affordable. Annual dues are only $10.00 per person for one year or $25 for three years per household of up to two individuals.
